Streamline Moderne consists of two sculptures that grace the Maison Green Development in Edina, MN. The artwork frames the view of the apartment complex from the East. The building’s distinct architectural design is the work of BKV Group and Reuter Walton Development who commissioned the artwork.
Each sculpture consists of two components: an animated abstract sculptural form, supported by an ornate cast stone column. The sculpted elements are fabricated out of stainless steel. The vertical columns are made out of precast architectural concrete with the look of carved stone. Each column is embellished with ornamental motifs specific to the City of Edina. The taller sculpture at the building includes a rendering in relief of the Minnehaha Creek. The primary motif is the bronze relief panel inset into the column inspired by the original Art Deco sign from the historic Edina Theater.
The theater, built in 1934, was designed by architects Liebenberg and Kaplan, they were renowned for their theater designs that utilized the international styles of Art Deco and Streamline Moderne architecture. Thus the title for the sculpture…
The sculpture is an abstract signifier representing the vitality, grace, and flavor for elegance that Maison Green represents….
